Herbarium Collections

Loan and Visitor Policies

The Herbarium is the centre of an information network that brings together botanists and mycologists from around the world. Every week, the Herbarium attracts an average of 50 visitors, about a quarter of whom are overseas researchers. The Herbarium is open to bona fide researchers by appointment. Before you visit, please read the conditions for visitors consulting the Herbarium.

A written application to visit is usually required and this can be sent via fax, email or letter to the relevant address.

Opening hours: 9am - 5pm, Monday-Friday

Location: for details on how to get to the Royal Botanic Gardens see Kew's visitor information pages. The Herbarium building is located off Kew Green to the right of the Main Gates to the Gardens. Herbarium reception is located along the right side of the building. The Kew Library is located within the same building. The nearest public transport station is Kew Bridge (overland rail). There is very limited parking alongside Kew Green.
